Providence University (PU; Chinese: 靜宜大學) was founded in 1921. It is a long-established school located in Taichung, Taiwan.
Providence University in Taiwan is a Catholic university located in Taichung City (the third largest city in Taiwan after New Taipei and Kaohsiung), with nearly 12,000 students currently enrolled. Established in 1921, the first president of the university was Professor Ho Ying-An.
In 1963, it was re-established and renamed “Providence College of Arts and Sciences for Women” with four departments: Chinese Literature, Western Languages and Literature, Business, and Mathematics. In 1993, the university broke away from its tradition and began admitting male students. “Providence College for Women” was renamed “Providence University Taiwan.” Since then, the number of male students has rapidly increased. The university is a member of the U12 Consortium and one of the two Taiwanese universities participating in the ISEP (International Student Exchange Programs) network.
